FEBRUARY 2011 POLICE BEAT

*Officers were sent to the Phillips 66 Station at 02/06/11 at about 5:50p.m. reference a disturbance between two female subjects.  The two subjects had met at the station in reference to a custody exchange.  Both parties admitted there had been an argument and a minor physical confrontation which had occurred.  Statements were taken from the involved parties.

*A vehicle stop on 02/07/11 at 1:30p.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver, Rocco Gioscio of Winchester, for allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.  It was reported that Gioscio was initially pulled over for failing to wear his seat belt.  A check of his license revealed the suspended status.

*On 02/07/11 at about 4:20p.m. an officer was contacted as the victim found that his car while parked had been struck by another vehicle.  According to the victim, he had parked his car in the 100 block of Willow Street on 02/06/11 while he was visiting a friend.  He later noticed that his car had been struck near the driver’s side rear wheel well.  The officer found red paint transfer in the damaged area.  Damage was estimated to be in excess of $500.

*A vehicle with an expired registration sticker was stopped by an officer on 02/10/11 at about 7:45p.m.  The vehicle was being driven by a Katelyn Paine of Taylorville.  It was reported the driver initially identified herself using her sister’s name. A computer check of Paine’s driver’s license revealed that her license was expired.  Paine was issued multiple citations for the following alleged offenses:  expired drivers license; no valid registration; failure to secure child in child restraint system; and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

*Along with allegedly driving on a suspended license, Michael Durbin of Taylorville was also charged with alleged possession of drug paraphernalia on 02/11/11 at 1:05p.m.  It was reported Durbin was stopped while travelling on Route 29 as a computer check revealed his license was suspended.  As the officer made contact with Durbin he observed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  The item was seized and sent to the crime lab for further testing.

*Officers took 3 burglary from vehicle reports on 02/13/11 during the morning hours.  These cases all appear to be related and occurred very late on 02/12/11 or during the very early morning on 02/13/11.  All of the reports taken were in reference to vehicles which had been parked in the Maplehurst and Wyndmoor subdivisions.  A CB radio, various coins, and cosmetics were reported as being stolen.  Several days later the police department received a call from a detective with the Springfield Police Department who reported their agency had made an arrest in several vehicle burglary cases and it appeared the subjects arrested had committed the burglaries mentioned in this report. Although property has not been recovered, it appears those responsible have been apprehended.  The detective also commented that the subjects arrested indicated they had been in Rochester the previous weekend looking to commit vehicle burglaries, but could not find any unlocked cars.

*On 02/14/11 at 11:45a.m. a vehicle stopped for allegedly travelling 69 in a 55 miles per hour zone on Route 29 resulted in the arrest of the driver, Michele Muller of Mason, for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

*Crystal Nerone, of Springfield, was stopped for an alleged speeding violation on 02/15/11 at 6:55p.m.  During the stop, the officer learned that Nerone was wanted on warrants which had been issued by Fayette and Macoupin Counties.  Nerone was taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

*On 02/15/11 at about 6:30p.m. Jennifer Benton of Buffalo was stopped for an alleged speeding violation on East Main Street.  A check of Benton’s driver’s license indicated her license had been suspended.

*Curtis Eller of Kincaid was stopped by officers on 02/17/11 at 10:45a.m.  During the stop, officers were informed that Eller’s driver’s license was suspended.  Eller was cited for the alleged offense.

*Aletha Hatfield of Springfield was stopped on 02/18/11 at about 3:20p.m.  Hatfield was ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

*A vehicle being driven by Luke Banning of Taylorville was stopped on 02/26/11 at 3:25p.m.  Banning was eventually given citations for allegedly driving on a suspended license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

*Daniel Reece of Springfield was stopped on 02/28/11 at about 6:00a.m.  Reece was issued citations for allegedly driving while suspended and operating a vehicle without insurance.
