JULY POLICE BEAT
*At about 4:00p.m., on 07/02/15, the police were contacted about a mailbox which had been destroyed in the Woodlands Subdivision. The officer went to the scene and determined the mailbox had been struck by a car as there were pieces of a bumper near the damaged mailbox. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and the subject who had been driving. The driver admitted to striking the mailbox and leaving the scene without making notification. She also stated she had been on her cell phone at the time of the accident. The driver, a juvenile, was issued citations for using a cell phone while operating a vehicle and for leaving the scene of an accident.
*On 07/04/15, at about 9:00p.m., officers who were working the 4th of July carnival were informed by dispatch of a subject who was believed to be in attendance at the carnival and had made threats to another person about hurting himself. Officers located the subject and questioned him about the situation. They decided to contact his parents and release him into their custody.
*On 07/07/15, at approximately 3:00p.m., police were advised of a subject driving a white van recklessly southbound on Route 29. An officer eventually caught up to the van and conducted a stop. An investigation into the stop resulted in the driver of the vehicle, Donald Foster of Edinburg, being ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license and operating a vehicle without insurance.
*Dawn Dudra of Pana was issued multiple citations on 07/11/15, at 7:15p.m. Dudra was cited for allegedly driving while her license was suspended and driving without insurance.
*A subject driving a vehicle with a reported suspended registration was stopped on 07/18/15, at about 8:00p.m. During the stop the officer learned the driver of the vehicle, Lacey Shanle of Edinburg, was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.
*A vehicle which was northbound on Route 29 near Taft Drive was clocked on radar travelling a reported 74 miles per hour on 07/19/15, at about 5:00p.m. The car, which was being driven by Christopher Warner of Springfield, was stopped near the intersection of Route 29 and Tuxhorn Road. Warner was arrested for allegedly driving on a revoked license.
*Two citations were issued to Jodee Carey of Kincaid on 07/22/15, at about 4:00p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle being driven by Carey and reported Carey was driving without insurance and on a suspended license. She was ticketed for both alleged offenses.
*A reported violation of the Village Animal Ordinance occurred on 07/22/15. The complainant advised he was walking his dog near the intersection of North Walnut Street and Circle Drive when two other dogs came out of a yard and attacked his dog. The complainant’s dog had been bitten on the back and the tail by the other dogs. The officer was able to identify the owner of the dogs, and then issued him an animal ordinance citation due to the violations.
*A vehicle being driven by John Esslinger was stopped on 07/25/15, at 6:00p.m. Esslinger, of Springfield, was ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license.
*A female resident contacted the police on 07/28/15, and reported she was assaulted while walking on the Lost Bridge Trail on 07/26/15, at approximately 7:00p.m. According to the victim, a teenage male subject who was riding a bicycle passed her going in the opposite direction while on the trail. This same subject passed her again a short time later; however, as he passed this time he grabbed the female’s buttocks nearly knocking her to the ground. When she exited the trail she saw the subject sitting on a bench and she recognized him. The 16 year-old male was eventually interviewed by the police, and according to the report, admitted to the incident. The report has been forwarded to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
*Officers were sent to a residence in the 400 block of Pleasant Lane on 07/28/15, at 7:00p.m., to meet with a subject who claimed she was being threatened. When officers arrived they learned the threats had been received by the victim from a Facebook message. The message indicated the victim would be hurt if money which was owed was not paid. When the officers began asking questions to gather additional information, the victim stated she wanted the police to be aware of the incident, but didn’t want an investigation to occur.
*On 07/28/15, at about 9:00p.m., a vehicle being driven by Jacob Miller of Taylorville was stopped. Miller was cited for allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.
*A vehicle being driven by Cory Scribner of Pana was stopped on 07/29/15, at 5:45p.m. During the stop, the officer learned Scribner didn’t have a valid driver’s license and he had a valid warrant for his arrest which had been issued by Shelby County authorities.
