  • NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER POLICE BEAT

    *Officers were called to a residence on Sattley Drive on 12/02/11, at about 4:00p.m. in reference to a theft report.  A male subject told the officer that his girlfriend had stolen $800 from him and his mother.  The victim reported that his mother and he had been doing some construction work and had earned $800.  They then asked the suspect, whom the victim referred to as his girlfriend of one week, to hold the money for them.  He went on to report that after the two of them got into an argument she left without giving the money back to him.  Additional information from the victim has not been received as yet for the investigation to continue.

    *On 12/08/11, an officer was sent to Rochester High School to meet with a school administrator.  The administrator wanted to report that there had been a theft which had occurred in the boy’s locker room earlier in the day.  It was reported that a suspect went through another student’s wallet and took $30 from the wallet.  The school had received information of a possible suspect.  Investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of a 17 year-old student for this alleged incident.  The suspect was also connected to a theft which had been reported in November.  The incident in November involved the suspect allegedly stealing $200 from the victim.  Again, the incident occurred in the boy’s locker room and involved the suspect going through other student’s wallets.

    *A vehicle being driven by Christopher Wessling of Taylorville was stopped on 12/14/11, at about 1:00p.m. Wessling was eventually cited for allegedly driving on a suspended license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

    *A burglary to a motor vehicle report was taken on 12/17/11.  The victim reported that numerous items were stolen from his car sometime after 9:00p.m. on 12/16/11.  Stolen items include several articles of clothing, a backpack, and some electronic equipment.  The total loss was estimated at $630.  It appears suspect(s) entered the victim’s unlocked car while it was parked in his driveway in the 100 block of Roanoke.

    *A car which had been parked in a driveway on Maplehurst Drive was burglarized sometime during the early morning hours of 12/21/11.  Reported stolen from the vehicle was an I-Pod, Garmin GPS Unit, and approximately $15 in change.  Total loss was estimated at $215.  The victim stated the vehicle had been left unlocked while parked in the driveway.

    *On 12/23/11, at about 3:30p.m. an officer was sent to a residence in the 400 block of Lexington in reference to an animal problem.  The officer arrived and met with a Sangamon County Animal Control Officer who had also been called to the scene.  They learned that a small dog from a residence on Pleasant Lane had been attacked by other dogs.  The small dog had been taken to the Vet Clinic with serious injuries.  An investigation into this incident resulted in a resident being cited for an alleged violation of the Village’s Animal Ordinance Policy.

    *On 12/28/11, the Police Department was notified that a delivery person had been bitten by a dog at a residence on Taft Drive.  At this time the incident is pending further investigation before any enforcement action is taken.

    *A vehicle being driven by Aaron Steele of Taylorville was stopped on 11/03/11, at 6:25p.m.  The officer reported that Steele’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the stop.  Steele was cited for the alleged violation.

    *Police reports indicate that a ticket for driving on a suspended license was issued to Shermita Gibson, of Springfield, on 11/09/11, at 12:25p.m.

    *On 11/12/11, officers had contact with Cheryl Allen, of Springfield.  During the contact, officers were told that Allen was presently wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Morgan County authorities.  Allen was taken into custody and transported to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *James Mitchell, of Moweaqua, was arrested by police on 11/13/11, at 9:40a.m.  Mitchell was found to be wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Macon County authorities.  He was taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *A theft report was taken from a resident on Gilson Drive on 11/14/11.  The resident reported that suspect(s) took a steel beam which had been dropped off at his house by a lumber company.  The victim stated the theft occurred sometime between 11:30a.m. and 2:30P.M. ON 11/14/11.  Loss was estimated at $400.

    *A vehicle being driven by Kevin Fields of Mechanicsburg was stopped due to an equipment violation.  During the course of the stop, an officer learned that Fields had allegedly been driving on a suspended license.  Fields was cited for the alleged offense.

    *Officers reported that on 11/27/11, at about 1:30a.m. they were travelling behind a vehicle which was going southbound on South Walnut Streets.  Reports indicate the driver of the vehicle, Joseph Jiannoni, was stopped for improper lane usage.  An investigation into the stop eventually resulted in his arrest for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol.

  • SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER POLICE BEAT

    *On 09/06/11, a vehicle driven by Ryan Prentice of Rochester was stopped.  Prentice was ticketed for allegedly driving while his license was suspended.

    *Branden Vaughn, of Pawnee, was stopped on 09/07/11 while travelling on Route 29.  During the course of the stop officers learned that Vaughn had allegedly been driving while his license was suspended.  He was cited for the reported offense.

    *A stop conducted on 09/08/11, resulted in the driver, Ashley Chelbus of Taylorville, being ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license.  Chelbus was also cited as she reportedly was unable to provide proof of insurance on her vehicle.

    *A check on the registration of a vehicle revealed that the owner, Edith Moore of Mount Auburn, had her driving privileges suspended.  Moore was eventually stopped by an officer on 09/13/11, and ticketed for the alleged violation.

    *An officer was sent to a residence on Taft Drive on 09/13/11 at 7:55p.m. for a reported dog bite.  The officer met with the victim and the dog owner.  The victim stated she had been delivering flyers to residences in the neighborhood and was bit as she was leaving one of the houses.  There was not any visible injury suffered by the victim.  Sangamon County Animal Control was contacted and they came to the scene.

    *On 09/19/11, at about 4:30p.m. an officer was sent to an address in the Park Forest Subdivision in reference to a possible overdose.  The officer arrived at the residence and met with the person who had called.  The officer learned that a relative had shown up at the caller’s house and there was concern for the relative’s mental state due to his recent behavior.  An ambulance was contacted and the subject was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

    *Jacob Miller of Taylorville was stopped on 09/30/11, for allegedly driving while his registration was expired.  During the course of the stop, it was discovered that Miller was also reportedly driving on a suspended license.  Miller was ticketed for the alleged violations.

    *Sangamon County Dispatch received a call on 09/30/11, at about 10:00p.m. in reference to a subject who had reportedly taken some pills and was threatening suicide.  Officers, along with EMS personnel, were sent to a residence in the Park Forest Subdivision to check on the subject.  Contact was made with subjects who were present at the residence.  The patient, who was conscious and alert at the time, was eventually transported to the hospital for further care.

    * On 10/01/11 at about 12:30p.m. a vehicle being driven by Melvin Tyus of Effingham was stopped.  It was reported that Tyus was stopped due to his registration sticker being expired.  During the stop, it was learned that Tyus was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by authorities with Effingham County.  Tyus was arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *A burglary to a motor vehicle incident was reported to the police on 10/07/11.  The incident occurred in the 100 block of East Main sometime after 7:00p.m. on 10/06/11.  The victim stated that the vehicle had been parked in the garage.  Suspect(s) reportedly entered the unlocked     garage and made entry into the unlocked car.  Two pairs of sunglasses and two prescription bottles were taken.

    *A resident in the Camelot Subdivision contacted the police on 10/06/11 at about 12:05p.m. when she realized someone had entered her house while she was home.  The victim told police that while she was in her bedroom she heard someone enter the house through the back door.  She yelled to the person, asking who was there, but received no response.  She then heard someone leave through the front door.  She reportedly looked out of her window and observed a white male get into an S-10 Chevrolet truck.  The victim recognized the vehicle and the suspect and followed the vehicle while contacting the police.  Officers arrived and took a 16 year-old juvenile into custody for the alleged burglary.  The victim’s property was recovered from the suspect.  Reports have been forwarded to the Sangamon County Juvenile Authorities.

    *Two criminal damage to property incidents which occurred in the Wyndmoor Subdivision were reported during the month of October.  The first incident was reported on 10/01/11, while the second was on 10/31/11.  In both cases blue spray paint was used to paint graffiti on various items.

    *A hit and run accident was reported to the police on 10/10/11.  The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. at several locations in the Meadows Subdivision.  The suspect vehicle struck 2 parked vehicles, a brick light fixture standard, a trailer and several mailboxes before leaving the subdivision.  Substantial damage was sustained to the victim’s vehicles as well as the suspect vehicle evident by the trail of debris left by the suspect vehicle.  The noise from the crash awakened one of the victims who immediately went outside to see what had occurred.  Officers arrived, but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.  The following day a report came in of a vehicle parked along Route 29 about 6 miles south of town which had extensive front end damage.  According to reports, this vehicle was eventually linked to the accident scene.  The suspect vehicle was registered to Timothy Lynch of Springfield.  Lynch was eventually ticketed for several alleged violations.

    *A burglary to a motor vehicle which reportedly occurred on 09/22/11, was reported to the police on 10/13/11.  The victim stated he was doing some construction work at an address on Vernon Drive on 09/22/11.  He claimed he later noticed several tools were missing and believes that the burglary happened between 11:30a.m. and 12:30p.m. on 09/22/11.  More than $5000 in tools has been reported as stolen.

    *An officer stopped to assist a motorist on 10/16/11, at about 2:00p.m. on Route 29.  The officer reported that he observed a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road and he stopped to check on the motorist.  A check of the vehicle registration revealed that the owner had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.  Robert Schnoor, of Springfield, was arrested in reference to the outstanding warrant.

    *Darlene Hobbs, of Edinburg, was stopped on 10/19/11, at 12:25p.m. and ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *Hoy Copelin, of Taylorville, was cited on 10/24/11, at 1:45p.m. for reportedly driving on a suspended license.

    *Several citations were issued to Melissa Ellis, of Boring, Oregon, on 10/28/11, at 11:40a.m.  Ellis was reportedly stopped for an alleged speeding violation.  During the stop, the officer was informed that the subject’s driver’s license out of Oregon had been suspended.

    *A stop of a vehicle on 10/29/11, at 12:00p.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver, Jacob Gideon.  Police reports indicate Gideon had an outstanding warrant for his arrest which had been issued by Christian County authorities.

  • MAY 2011 POLICE BEAT

    *Daniel Roach, of Springfield, was issued a citation for allegedly driving on a revoked license.  The incident occurred on 05/01/11 at 5:25p.m.

    *Michael Davis, of Jacksonville, was cited on 05/05/11 at 1:50p.m. for reportedly driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance.

    *What began as a motorist assist eventually resulted in the arrest of the driver of the vehicle for allegedly driving on a revoked license.  An officer stopped to help a motorist identified as Tiffany Tucker, of Taylorville, whose vehicle had run out of fuel on 05/06/11, at 2:30p.m. on Route 29.  A check of Tucker’s driver’s license revealed her current driving status as being revoked.  She was arrested for the alleged violation.

    * A vehicle stop was conducted on 05/09/11, on a vehicle being driven by Rodney Peck of Taylorville.  Peck was subsequently ticketed for reportedly driving while his license was suspended.

    *Taylor Dodd, of Riverton, was stopped on 05/07/11, and again on 05/09/11.  Both stops resulted in Dodd being issued tickets for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *Leeanne Kinsella, of Taylorville, received multiple tickets on 05/11/11, at 10:15p.m.  Kinsella had reportedly been driving without proof of insurance and driving while her license was revoked.

    *A vehicle being driven by Sean Dickerson was stopped on 05/13/11, at 8:00p.m.  Dickerson received citations for allegedly driving while his license was suspended and for driving without insurance.

    *Officers were sent to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Pleasant Lane on 05/15/11, at 8:50p.m.  Upon arriving at the residence officers were informed by the complainant that his 25 year-old son had become angry and had been threatening to tear up the residence and kill family members.  Officers were told that the subject was in a bedroom with his brother and was possibly armed with a knife.  Officers were eventually able to talk the subject out of the bedroom.  He was eventually transported to the hospital.

    *Multiple citations were issued to Colleen Lawrence, of Assumption, as a vehicle stop was conducted on a vehicle she was driving on 05/18/11, at about 12:40p.m.  Lawrence was reportedly driving while being suspended and driving without insurance.

    *Ashley Blades, of Springfield, was issued a citation on 05/19/11, for reportedly driving on a suspended license.

    *A vehicle being driven by Timothy Carr of Springfield was stopped on 05/21/11, at 10:30p.m. due to an alleged headlight violation.  Carr was eventually ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license and operating a vehicle without insurance.

    *An officer discovered a vehicle improperly parked in the Rochester School parking lot at about 8:00a.m. on 05/22/11.  The officer noticed that the window was down and the keys were still in the ignition.  It was determined the vehicle which was registered to the City of Taylorville had been reported as being stolen.  Taylorville authorities were notified and they came to retrieve their vehicle.

    *Officers were sent to a residence on Pleasant Lane on 05/24/11, at about 1:15p.m. in reference to a report of a domestic disturbance.  Officers were told that a 16 year-old subject who resides at the residence began arguing with his siblings. During the course of the argument he reportedly punched an older brother striking the side of the victim’s head.  A referral report was sent to the juvenile authorities.

    *Felisha Sickles, of Edinburg, was arrested on 05/25/11, at 9:00p.m.  After running a computer check of Sickles driver’s license, officers learned that she was wanted on a warrant which had been issued in Douglas County.

    *On 05/30/11, at 10:15p.m. a vehicle being driven by Gregory Jones, of Vandalia, was stopped.  It was reported that Jones had been driving while his license was suspended.

    *A vehicle being driven by David Matthews, of Nokomis, was stopped on 05/30/11 at 10:30p.m. for an alleged equipment violation.  Matthews was eventually arrested in reference to a warrant which had been issued by Montgomery County authorities.

  • APRIL 2011 POLICE BEAT

    *A vehicle which was travelling eastbound on West Main Street at about 2:45a.m. on 04/01/11 caught an officer’s attention as the vehicle had a rear flat tire and had branches stuck in the front bumper.  According to reports, the driver of the vehicle was travelling in excess of the posted speed limit.  The officer eventually conducted a stop of this vehicle and made contact with the driver, Aaron Whitaker of Springfield.  An investigation into the stop resulted in the arrest of Whitaker for several alleged violations including DUI.

    *Richard Kennedy of Taylorville was stopped on 04/04/11 at about 2:25p.m. and issued a citation for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *On 04/06/11, at about 8:35p.m. officers received a call from a subject who resides in the Camelot Subdivision.  She was concerned as she had received a phone call from her husband and he was at their residence threatening to kill himself. Officers went to the residence and made contact with the subject.  He was eventually transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

    *Nicholas Dooley of Nokomis was arrested on 04/08/11, at about 5:20p.m. as Dooley had an active warrant for his arrest which had been issued by Montgomery County authorities.

    *Alex Haire of Rochester was arrested on 04/12/11, at 7:40a.m.  Officers learned Haire was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.

    *A vehicle being driven by Contavious Kidd of Springfield was stopped on 04/13/11 at 9:35a.m. due to an alleged speeding violation.  According to the report, Kidd was also cited for not having a driver’s license.  On 04/14/11, at 5:05p.m. Kidd was cited again for allegedly driving without a valid license.

    *Dalton Felber of Rochester was stopped on 04/17/11, at about 7:45p.m.  Felber was cited for allegedly driving while his license is suspended.  Felber was again cited for the same offense on 04/30/11.

    *A truck driven by Steven Huddleston of Taylorville was stopped on 04/18/11 at about 4:10p.m.  During the course of the stop, officers learned that Huddleston was allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *On 04/23/11, at about 1:40a.m. officers reported clocking a vehicle travelling over the posted speed limit on North Oak Street.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver of the vehicle, Warren Summers, was ticketed for multiple alleged violations including speed, driving an uninsured vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, and DUI.

    *Officers were called to a family disturbance on 04/23/11, at about 9:15p.m. at a residence on Twin Oaks.  The victims claimed that family members came to the house to discuss issues concerning their younger children.  According to the victims, the family members slapped and punched them striking them in the face.  Arrested for the alleged domestic battery were Cortney Smith and Brian Smith.

    *A vehicle being driven by Travis Cline of Rochester was stopped on 04/24/11 at 1:15a.m.  The report indicates Cline’s vehicle was clocked travelling over the posted speed limit on Route 29.  A subsequent investigation into the stop resulted in the arrest of Cline for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol.

    *A vehicle which was stopped on 04/30/11 at 1:45p.m. due to a registration sticker being expired resulted in the arrest of the driver of the vehicle due to an outstanding warrant.  Toni Hickey of Springfield was arrested due to a warrant having been issued by Menard County authorities.

  • MARCH 2011 POLICE BEAT

    *A vehicle being driven by Amber Bone of Kincaid was stopped on 03/13/11 at 5:45p.m.

    It was reported Bone was had been driving on a suspended license.

    *Marvin Reebel of Springfield was stopped on 03/16/11 at about 3:45p.m.  It was reported Reebel was stopped due to an equipment violation.  During the course of the stop it was learned that Reebel’s driver’s license was currently suspended. In addition to the ticket Reebel received for the alleged license suspension, he was also cited for the alleged offense of failure to provide proof of insurance.

    *A burglary to motor vehicle report was taken on 03/19/11 at about 7:15p.m.  The incident occurred in the Camelot subdivision while the vehicle was parked on Guinevere Drive.  According to the victim, someone entered his pickup truck sometime between 3:45p.m.-- 03/18/11, and 6:00p.m. --  03/19/11.  Once inside the suspect took a Dewalt Hammer Drill valued at $425.

    *A vehicle initially stopped for an alleged speeding violation on 03/19/11 at 2:20a.m., eventually resulted in the arrest of the driver, Megan Chisolm of Riverton, for an alleged DUI.  The officer noted that upon contacting Chisolm, he found that she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  After reportedly failing field sobriety tests, Chisolm was arrested for the alleged offense.

    *On 03/20/11, at 11:30p.m. the driver of a vehicle which had been travelling northbound on Route 29 was stopped for an alleged speeding violation.  As the driver, Marcia Fleming-Hoffman of Edinburg, spoke to the officer the officer noted he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver.  Hoffman was eventually arrested for an alleged DUI.

    *Travis Koontz of Springfield was cited on 03/28/11 at about 10:00p.m. for allegedly driving on a suspended license and failure to provide proof of insurance.

    *A vehicle being driven by a juvenile was stopped on 03/29/11 at 3:00p.m.   The officer noted that he stopped the vehicle as the registration sticker had expired.  A subsequent investigation into the stop resulted in the arrest of the juvenile for alleged possession of marijuana and for other traffic offenses.

  • FEBRUARY 2011 POLICE BEAT

    *Officers were sent to the Phillips 66 Station at 02/06/11 at about 5:50p.m. reference a disturbance between two female subjects.  The two subjects had met at the station in reference to a custody exchange.  Both parties admitted there had been an argument and a minor physical confrontation which had occurred.  Statements were taken from the involved parties.

    *A vehicle stop on 02/07/11 at 1:30p.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver, Rocco Gioscio of Winchester, for allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.  It was reported that Gioscio was initially pulled over for failing to wear his seat belt.  A check of his license revealed the suspended status.

    *On 02/07/11 at about 4:20p.m. an officer was contacted as the victim found that his car while parked had been struck by another vehicle.  According to the victim, he had parked his car in the 100 block of Willow Street on 02/06/11 while he was visiting a friend.  He later noticed that his car had been struck near the driver’s side rear wheel well.  The officer found red paint transfer in the damaged area.  Damage was estimated to be in excess of $500.

    *A vehicle with an expired registration sticker was stopped by an officer on 02/10/11 at about 7:45p.m.  The vehicle was being driven by a Katelyn Paine of Taylorville.  It was reported the driver initially identified herself using her sister’s name. A computer check of Paine’s driver’s license revealed that her license was expired.  Paine was issued multiple citations for the following alleged offenses:  expired drivers license; no valid registration; failure to secure child in child restraint system; and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

    *Along with allegedly driving on a suspended license, Michael Durbin of Taylorville was also charged with alleged possession of drug paraphernalia on 02/11/11 at 1:05p.m.  It was reported Durbin was stopped while travelling on Route 29 as a computer check revealed his license was suspended.  As the officer made contact with Durbin he observed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.  The item was seized and sent to the crime lab for further testing.

    *Officers took 3 burglary from vehicle reports on 02/13/11 during the morning hours.  These cases all appear to be related and occurred very late on 02/12/11 or during the very early morning on 02/13/11.  All of the reports taken were in reference to vehicles which had been parked in the Maplehurst and Wyndmoor subdivisions.  A CB radio, various coins, and cosmetics were reported as being stolen.  Several days later the police department received a call from a detective with the Springfield Police Department who reported their agency had made an arrest in several vehicle burglary cases and it appeared the subjects arrested had committed the burglaries mentioned in this report. Although property has not been recovered, it appears those responsible have been apprehended.  The detective also commented that the subjects arrested indicated they had been in Rochester the previous weekend looking to commit vehicle burglaries, but could not find any unlocked cars.

    *On 02/14/11 at 11:45a.m. a vehicle stopped for allegedly travelling 69 in a 55 miles per hour zone on Route 29 resulted in the arrest of the driver, Michele Muller of Mason, for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *Crystal Nerone, of Springfield, was stopped for an alleged speeding violation on 02/15/11 at 6:55p.m.  During the stop, the officer learned that Nerone was wanted on warrants which had been issued by Fayette and Macoupin Counties.  Nerone was taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *On 02/15/11 at about 6:30p.m. Jennifer Benton of Buffalo was stopped for an alleged speeding violation on East Main Street.  A check of Benton’s driver’s license indicated her license had been suspended.

    *Curtis Eller of Kincaid was stopped by officers on 02/17/11 at 10:45a.m.  During the stop, officers were informed that Eller’s driver’s license was suspended.  Eller was cited for the alleged offense.

    *Aletha Hatfield of Springfield was stopped on 02/18/11 at about 3:20p.m.  Hatfield was ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *A vehicle being driven by Luke Banning of Taylorville was stopped on 02/26/11 at 3:25p.m.  Banning was eventually given citations for allegedly driving on a suspended license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

    *Daniel Reece of Springfield was stopped on 02/28/11 at about 6:00a.m.  Reece was issued citations for allegedly driving while suspended and operating a vehicle without insurance.

  • JANUARY 2011 POLICE BEAT

    *On 01/01/11, at about 11:00p.m., while conducting a business check an officer found that a vending machine which was located in front of the Village Market had been broken into.  The machine was damaged and the coin box was missing.  The total loss was reported to be $370.00.

    *William Bacon of Springfield was stopped on 01/09/11 at about 6:15p.m. The officer reported the vehicle Bacon was driving was stopped due to an equipment violation.  A check of Bacon’s driver’s license revealed his license was currently suspended.

    *On 01/17/11, at about 2:30a.m. an officer was sent to check on a report of a slumped driver on Route 29 just north of town.  The officer located the vehicle and eventually made contact with the driver, who was identified as Heath Bilyeu of Assumption.  Based on the investigation which followed the driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

    *A vehicle stop conducted on 01/19/11 at 5:25p.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver, Andrew Kent of Springfield.  Kent had been stopped for an alleged speeding violation and a check of his driver’s license indicated he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant had been issued by Mason County authorities.

    *At 8:30a.m. on 01/27/11, an officer was sent to the Rochester High School in reference to a report of a student being in possession of cannabis.  The officer met with school administrators and was given a plastic bag which contained what appeared to be cannabis.  The student was eventually arrested and taken to the Rochester Police Department.  A report has been forwarded to the Sangamon County Juvenile Authorities.

    *The driver of a vehicle who was originally stopped for a reported equipment violation was eventually arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol.  The driver, who was identified as Tracey Sidles of Springfield, had been travelling northbound on Route 29 on 01/27/11, at about 6:45p.m.  As officers made contact with Sidles they reported he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  He was eventually arrested and cited for the alleged DUI and driving without a valid license.

    *Warren Duncan, of Springfield, was stopped for an alleged equipment violation on 01/29/11 at about 4:50p.m.  As officers spoke to Duncan concerning the violation, he informed the officers that he was currently driving on a suspended license.

  • DECEMBER 2010 POLICE BEAT

    *A vehicle being driven by Robert Ward of Springfield was stopped on 12/03/10 at 10:15a.m.  While issuing  Ward a citation for an alleged insurance violation officers were informed that he was driving on a revoked license.

    *Christopher Cantrall of Springfield was arrested by officers on 12/03/10 at about 2:20p.m.  Officers had stopped Cantrall for allegedly driving on a suspended license and during the course of the stop learned that he was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities.

    *On 12/07/10, a report was received by the police from a resident of the Maplehurst Subdivision reference a television set being from their front porch.  The victim reported that while he was out of town a television was delivered by UPS and placed on the front porch on 12/04/10.  When the victim returned home and checked on the status of the television he learned it had been delivered and now was missing.  It appears the theft of the television occurred sometime between 1:00p.m. on 12/04/10 and 5:00a.m. on 12/05/10.

    *Officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of Mill Street on 12/09/10 reference a report of a domestic disturbance.  Officers arrived at the residence at about 9:20p.m.  They met with the parties involved and learned that the married couple residing together at the house have had ongoing problems.  When the male subject was told that his wife wanted a divorce he reportedly began breaking items in the residence.  Both parties were separated for the evening.

    *On 12/13/10, an officer was sent to a residence in the 400 block of Pleasant Lane in reference to a report of a stolen vehicle.  As the officer was approaching the residence he observed a vehicle travelling on Oak Street without the headlights functioning.  The officer caught up to this vehicle and saw that it matched the description of the vehicle which had been reported as stolen.  A stop of this vehicle was conducted and the driver, a male juvenile, was taken into custody.  According to the report, an argument had taken place earlier in the evening between the suspect and another family member over cigarettes.  Witnesses stated that suspect grabbed the keys to the car and left with the vehicle.  The 15 year-old suspect was ticketed for allegedly driving without a license and then released into his mother’s custody as he did not have enough points to be taken to the juvenile detention center.  A report has been forwarded to the Sangamon County Juvenile Authorities.

    *A vehicle being driven by Stephen Little was stopped on 12/19/10 at about 1:00a.m. for an alleged equipment violation.  According to the report, Little admitted to officers that his license had been suspended.

    *The driver of a vehicle which was stopped on 12/19/10 at 8:55a.m. for an alleged speeding violation was eventually ticketed for allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.  During the course of the stop officers were informed that the driver, John Nichols of Lincoln, did not have a valid driver’s license.  He was ticketed for multiple violations.

    *On 12/20/10, at 1:50a.m. officers were sent to a resident on Taft Drive.  Officers were advised of a medical problem at the address involving a 21 year old male subject.  Officers arrived at the residence and found the subject lying on the basement floor.  He was unconscious with labored breathing.  Rochester Emergency Medical Personnel arrived shortly after the officers had and began performing life-saving measures on the subject.  During the course of the investigation, officers were told the male subject had over-dosed on heroin.  The subject, who had been visiting a friend who lived at the residence, was transported to St John’s Hospital.

  • OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2010 POLICE BEAT

    *On 10/01/10, officers took numerous reports from residents of the Camelot Subdivision in reference to eggs having been thrown at vehicles.  Approximately 8 vehicles which had been parked at various locations in the subdivision had been struck with eggs.  There was no permanent damage done to any of the vehicles.

    *A burglary to a motor vehicle occurred sometime during the late evening hours of 10/01/10 or the early morning hours of 10/02/10.  The vehicle had been parked in the resident’s driveway in the 1000 block of Heathrow.  Suspect(s) entered the unlocked truck and removed the following items:  Jensen Stereo System; $40 in cash; and a 10 inch Rockford Fosgate Sub woofer.  The total loss was estimated at $500.

    *A Sangamon County Deputy and a Rochester officer were sent to a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of Pleasant Lane on 10/04/10 at about 1:45a.m.  Officers had been informed that a subject named Bryan Short was at the residence and the Springfield Police Department was looking for Short in reference to an alleged domestic violence incident which had occurred in Springfield.  Officers located Short at the residence and informed him he was under arrest.  According to police reports, a scuffle between Short and the officers occurred and Short had to be tased as officers attempted to place him in custody.  He was then handcuffed and taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *A vehicle driven by a Luttrell Walker of Springfield was stopped on 10/09/10, at about 6:30p.m.  Walker was stopped due to an alleged speeding violation.  During the course of the stop Walker was also cited for allegedly driving on a suspended license and failure to provide insurance.

    *Demarco Burnes of Lebanon was driving a vehicle which was stopped on 10/10/10 at 1:15a.m.  Dispatch informed officers that Burnes driving license was currently suspended.

    *A resident in the 500 block of Mill Street called the police on 10/16/10.  The resident reported that some type of explosive device had been set off in her mailbox.  The explosion damaged her mailbox.

    *On 10/19/10, at about 3:50p.m., officers were informed by dispatch that a subject driving a black Pontiac was northbound on Route 29 after allegedly driving away from a gas station in Taylorville without paying for gasoline.  Officer observed a vehicle matching this description at the intersection of Route 29 and Cardinal Hill Road.  The vehicle was stopped and the driver admitted he had failed to pay for the gasoline.  Arrangements were made with authorities from Christian County for the handling of this matter.

    *A vehicle stopped on 10/23/10, at 5:05p.m. was being driven by a Thomas Hassen of rural Rochester.  During the course of the stop officers learned that Hassen was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Morgan County Authorities.  He was arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

    *Donald Smith of Mechanicsburg was arrested on 10/23/10 at about 10:15p.m.  Smith had been stopped as officers learned he was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Christian County Authorities.

    *Alan Yonkers of Springfield was stopped by police on 10/24/10, at about 6:40p.m.  Yonkers was issued two citations as a result of the stop.  He was cited for allegedly operating a motor vehicle without insurance and for allegedly driving on a suspended license.

    *A vehicle stop conducted on 10/28/10 at about 3:45p.m. resulted in the arrest of the driver, Toby Clemons of Springfield.  Clemons was allegedly driving on a suspended driver’s license.

    *On 10/30/10, at about 9:15p.m. officers were sent to the Woodlands Subdivision in reference to a report of a suspicious person.  Dispatched advised the officers that this suspicious person was seen walking through various backyards in the subdivision.  When officers arrived on the scene they observed a red truck parked along the side of the road.  They observed a male subject sitting in the vehicle.  This subject matched the description of the suspicious person which had been reported.  Further investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of Alex Haire of Rochester for an alleged Illegal Consumption of Alcohol.

    *A Willis Ware of Chicago was stopped on 11/02/10 at 11:50a.m.  Officers learned that Ware was allegedly driving on a suspended license after stopping him for an expired registration.

    *An officer was dispatched to 120 South Cardinal Hill Road on 11/08/10, to take a theft report.  The address is where the new Rochester Middle School is located.  The police were advised by a construction foreman that when he arrived for work he found that a trailer had been stolen from the construction site.  This trailer was described as a 7’ by 16’ enclosed trailer that was used for storing tools.  It appears sometime between 11/05/10 and 11/08/10, suspect(s) hooked up to the trailer and removed it from the site.  The loss of the trailer and contents was estimated at $8500.00.

    *Antonio Kidd of Springfield was cited for allegedly driving on a suspended license after being stopped on 11/29/10 at 12:30p.m.
