FEBRUARY 2015 POLICE BEAT

*At about 1:00a.m., on 02/03/15, an officer stopped a vehicle as it reportedly failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of West Main and Oak Hill. As the officer spoke with the driver of the vehicle he reported observing several opened beer bottles on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat. A passenger in the vehicle, Denise McGrew of Springfield, admitted the bottles belonged to her. McGrew was ticketed for an alleged illegal consumption of alcohol violation.

*On 02/04/15, at about 10:30p.m., a vehicle which had been travelling northbound on Route 29 was stopped. During the stop the officer was informed by dispatch the registration on the vehicle was revoked. Crystal Johnson, of Springfield, was issued a citation for the alleged violation and her vehicle was towed.

*A report was taken on 02/05/15, in regards to damage to two mailboxes which were located near the entrance of Maplehurst Subdivision. The damage occurred sometime during the late evening hours on 02/04/15, or early morning hours on 02/05/15. The damage was estimated at $50.

*Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Twin Oaks on 02/08/15, in reference to a possible animal ordinance violation. When officers met with the owner of the dog they learned the dog had gotten out of the fenced area earlier, but was now in the residence. Officers later learned the dog had attacked another dog while it was loose. The dog which had been attacked had several bite marks in the neck area and had been bleeding. After making contact with Sangamon County Animal Control, the owner of the dog was issued a citation reference the violation.

*A vehicle was stopped on 02/09/15, at about 3:30p.m., as an officer reported clocking the vehicle at 50 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone. The officer noted that during the course of the stop he smelled what appeared to be marijuana. When he asked the driver, a male juvenile, if he had anything illegal in the car, the driver handed the officer a small amount of marijuana. The driver’s mother was contacted and informed of the situation. Citations were issued for the alleged offenses.

*Hector Lopez, of Jacksonville, was stopped on 02/11/15, at 4:30p.m. During the stop the officer learned that Lopez’s Illinois driver’s license had been cancelled. He was cited for the alleged offense and an individual with a valid drivers license drove the car from the scene.

*An officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of North Walnut on 02/12/15, at about 11:30p.m., as a parent had called dispatch and reported their 11 year-old son was missing. After arriving, officers learned the juvenile became angry after an argument and left the home. He was located a short time later at a relative’s house.

*A vehicle which was parked at the owner’s home in the 400 block of East Main was damaged sometime before 02/16/15. The vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet truck had numerous deep scratches on one side of the truck. Damage to the truck was estimated at $2450.00.

*Jessica Link, of Springfield, was stopped on 02/18/15, for reportedly making an illegal turn. As the officer was checking Link’s driving status he learned she had allegedly been driving on a suspended license.

*A resident in the 500 block of Sattley contacted the police on 02/20/15, to report his home had been burglarized. According to the resident he arrived home and found a pane of glass from one his doors had been removed and was lying on the floor. As he checked his house he noticed two television sets had been stolen and several tools from the garage were missing. A crime scene technician was called to process the scene. At this time the case is still under investigation.

*Officers were sent to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Cumberland on 02/21/15, at 12:40a.m. Officers arrived and learned that an argument had taken place between the resident and her boyfriend. Both subjects, who had been drinking, had calmed down by the time officers arrived. After speaking with both parties, it was decided the two would separate for the night.

*An officer was sent to the Rochester Junior High School on 02/23/15, at 2:40p.m. to meet with a school administrator. When he arrived he was informed a junior high student had been in possession of a bottle of alcohol which she claimed she had received from another student. Parents were contacted and informed of what had occurred. Disciplinary action is being taken by school authorities.

*A vehicle was stopped on 02/24/15, at 1:40p.m., due to a reported equipment violation. According to the police report, the driver of the car, Lacey Swinburne of Taylorville, was driving on a suspended driver’s license and was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities. After the car was towed, Swinburne was taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

*On 02/26/15, at 8:30a.m., an officer met with a resident in the 500 block of Sawmill Court. The resident requested to speak with the officer to discuss a domestic problem she has been having with her ex-boyfriend. She stated she recently broke up with the ex-boyfriend and had him leave her house. When she got home today she found various items in the house had been disturbed. She also found a window had been unlocked and it appeared whoever had been in the residence entered through this window. The resident wanted the police to contact the ex-boyfriend and tell him he was no longer welcome at her house. Due to the past history related by the resident, the officer encouraged her to seek an order of protection against the ex-boyfriend.

*The stop of a vehicle on 02/27/15, at 8:45a.m., resulted in the arrest of a passenger, Lisa Fowler of Springfield. During the stop officers discovered Fowler was wanted on a warrant which had been issued by Sangamon County authorities. She was taken to the Sangamon County Jail.
